About the position

The Principal Machine Learning Engineer (PMLE) at US Foods will be a key technical leader within the Machine Learning Operations team, focusing on advancements in AI and Generative AI. This role involves providing thought leadership across the Analytics & Data Science organization, collaborating with ML Engineers, Data Scientists, and business leaders to design, develop, and deploy innovative AI solutions. The PMLE will ensure efficient transitions from development to production of ML models and guide the ML Ops team in building and automating ML CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Oversee development and deployment of ML pipelines and infrastructure, including applications of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI
• Stay current on state-of-the-art methods and technologies; identify opportunities for innovation that pushes limits and helps drive step-change in our growth, productivity, and customer experience
• Mentor and develop our ML Ops and Engineering talent while leveling-up our ML production capabilities
• Lead cross-functional teams in breakthrough AI/ML innovations
• Collaborate with ML Ops and Data Science teams, Digital and Technology teams, and business stakeholders
• Other duties as assigned by manager

Requirements

• Minimum of 5+ years of experience with ML frameworks (e.g. scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
• Minimum of 5+ years of experience with cloud computing, data processing, API development, ML Ops, CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration, and coding languages
• Hands-on experience with LLMs and Generative AI including a proven track record delivering projects from conception to production
• Deep understanding of ML and Deep Learning algorithms, ML system design and architecture, model development lifecycle, and distributed computing
• Experience with experimentation, A/B tests, and causal inference
• Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to present effectively to cross-functional stakeholders and senior leadership
