About the position

Atlassian is seeking a Principal Machine Learning Scientist to join the Central AI team in Bellevue, WA. This role focuses on developing and implementing advanced machine learning algorithms and models to enhance AI functionalities across Atlassian's products and services. The Central AI organization is responsible for building the foundational infrastructure and capabilities necessary for AI innovation, ensuring seamless integration and collaboration across various departments within the company.

Responsibilities

• Drive the development and implementation of cutting-edge machine learning algorithms.
• Train sophisticated models and collaborate with product, engineering, and analytics teams.
• Design system and model architectures for AI functionalities.
• Conduct rigorous experimentation and model evaluations.
• Provide guidance to emerging machine learning engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of related industry experience in the data science domain.
• Expertise in Python or Java with the ability to write performant production-quality code.
• Familiarity with SQL and knowledge of Spark and cloud data environments (e.g., AWS, Databricks).
• Experience building and scaling machine learning models in business applications using large amounts of data.
• Ability to communicate and explain data science concepts to diverse audiences.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience working in a consumer or B2C space for a SaaS product provider, or the enterprise/B2B space.
• Experience in developing deep learning-based models and working on LLM-related applications.
• Excelling in solving ambiguous and complex problems.
