About the position

AtriCure, Inc. is seeking a Principal Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Mason, OH. This position is crucial for developing and maintaining capable and stable manufacturing processes that meet our product quality standards and requirements. The Principal Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for process development and improvement, as well as tooling and fixture development both internally at AtriCure and externally at key suppliers. This role will also involve the development of process analytics for preemptive defect control, process documentation, and optimizing process layout and material logistic flow. As an experienced member of the manufacturing engineering team, the Principal Manufacturing Engineer will qualify, implement, and support manufacturing processes and equipment. This individual will be recognized as a subject matter expert in at least two major areas of manufacturing engineering, ensuring continuous improvement in process, cost, quality, and production. The role includes leading and mentoring members of the Manufacturing/Process Engineering Teams, supporting a Design for Manufacturability (DFM) focused culture within the Product Development (PD) teams and the operations organization, and driving a continuous improvement culture across these teams. The Principal Manufacturing Engineer will serve as a key liaison with external suppliers, bringing expertise in machining, molding, and extrusion tooling and processes. The position requires regular and predictable attendance, the ability to work under fast-paced conditions, and the capacity to make decisions using good judgment. The successful candidate will prioritize various duties and multitask effectively while collaborating successfully with others. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain capable and stable manufacturing processes to meet product quality standards.
  • Lead and mentor members of the Manufacturing/Process Engineering Teams.
  • Support and drive a Design for Manufacturability (DFM) focused culture within the Product Development teams and operations organization.
  • Drive a continuous improvement culture within the Product Development teams and operations organization.
  • Serve as a key liaison with external suppliers, providing expertise in machining, molding, and extrusion tooling and processes.
  • Implement and support manufacturing processes and equipment qualification.
  • Develop process analytics for preemptive defect control and process documentation.
  • Optimize process layout and material logistic flow.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent is required.
  • 20+ years of experience in manufacturing/process engineering (15 years + Masters).
  • Experience in the development of new manufacturing processes and the tooling/equipment required to implement these processes.
  • Knowledge of Lean Processes and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
  • Experience with medical device design and manufacture, specifically class II or class III Medical Device manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and capabilities, with the ability to guide process and supplier selection.
  • Self-motivated with strong time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop business, operational, and financial strategies that achieve organizational objectives.
  • Ability to translate broad strategies into specific objectives and action plans.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry best practices and the ability to implement them.
  • Experience in technical report writing and strong verbal and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret technical specifications and illustrations.
  • Comfortable driving multiple initiatives at a rapid pace, making thoughtful recommendations based on available data.
  • Active, high-energy communicator who aligns teams, critical resources, management, and stakeholders with the company vision/mission.
  • Creative thinker with exceptional process, analytical, management, and relationship skills.
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting experience.
