About the position

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS) is seeking a Principal Manufacturing Engineer to join our Camden, AR team. This role is crucial in supporting the mission of the warfighter, as our products are utilized by every U.S. military branch and our allies globally. The Principal Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for planning, designing, and constructing manufacturing facilities and related structures. This includes determining facility specifications through analysis and evaluation of location, material resources, and structural design. The engineer will also resolve technical problems and recommend production improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in manufacturing processes. In this position, the engineer will develop, evaluate, and improve industrial manufacturing methods by leveraging knowledge of product design, materials, fabrication processes, tooling, production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards. The role requires analyzing and planning workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow, as well as designing the layout of equipment and workspace to maximize efficiency. The engineer will determine the necessary parts, equipment, tools, and processes to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specifications. Additionally, the Principal Manufacturing Engineer will estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide valuable information for management decisions. Effective communication of manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other relevant information is essential to facilitate production processes. The engineer will also confer with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for the purchase of equipment, materials, and parts, while evaluating products based on specifications and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, evaluates, and improves industrial manufacturing methods.
  • Analyzes and plans workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow.
  • Designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Determines the parts, equipment, tools, and processes needed to achieve manufacturing goals.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs.
  • Communicates manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, or other information to facilitate production processes.
  • Confers with vendors to determine specifications of products and arrange equipment, material purchase, and parts.
  • Evaluates products based on specifications and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or other engineering field required.
  • 8-10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering or related field.
  • Proficient in 5S methodology, As-Is analysis, and manufacturing engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of failure analysis, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and integrity engineering.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, process integration, and production engineering.
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping, statistical process control, and value engineering.
  • Ability to perform workload analysis and workflow optimization.
  • Proficient in CAD software and computer-aided engineering (CAE) software.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and analytical thinking skills.
