About the position

The Principal Manufacturing Systems Project Engineer at Northrop Grumman will oversee a product line or group of product lines within the Commodities manufacturing areas, focusing on Surface Mount Technology and Advanced Ceramics Fabrication. This role involves acting as the main point of contact for manufacturing engineering activities, monitoring product performance, and collaborating with various functional groups to ensure quality and efficiency in production. The position emphasizes continuous improvement and problem resolution, making it crucial for the success of the manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the main point of contact for all manufacturing engineering related activities for your product within the cell.
  • Monitor product performance, quality, delivery, and cost metrics; highlight detractors and gather resources to resolve them.
  • Collaborate closely with process engineering peers and multiple functional groups supporting shop floor, program office, and customer.
  • Drive root cause corrective action efforts.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities; create solutions and lobby for funding.
  • Review and handle product on the shop floor.
  • Lead communications outward from the shop floor, through yield meetings, situation reports, problem resolution charts, etc.
  • Gather and document efforts related to non-recurring cost for initial product startup and support manufacturing readiness reviews.
  • Coordinate between non-deliverable hardware requestor and manufacturing operations/engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering or related STEM area and 5 years of relevant professional experience (or 3 years with an MS; 0 years with a PhD).
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing or leading projects and/or people.
  • Familiarity with Design of Experiment (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC), and 6 sigma concepts for process development.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Fluency in MS Office software applications.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Secret Security Clearance (US Citizenship is required).
