Do meaningful work, make a difference, and improve lives - starting with your own. As a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be part of the MECC Design & Systems group. MECC is a Technology Development Center that supports the design, development, and production of components used in implantable devices for a variety of Medtronic businesses. You will focus on driving design integrity across multiple component product lines to attain business goals consistent with cost, high quality, reliability and manufacturability requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Researches, plans, designs, verifies, validates and develops mechanical and/or electromechanical products and systems, such as metals, instruments, controls, plastics, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, resonance, hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy.
  • Recommends various technology options or approaches for system, processes, facility or program improvements in terms of safety, performance, efficiency or costs.
  • May be responsible for the transfer from R&D to manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience

Nice-to-haves

  • BS degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical engineering or a related discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in R&D and/or Manufacturing in a medical device industry
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and methodologies
  • Experience in Lean SixSigma or DRM / DFSS
  • Knowledge and understanding of product and process risk analysis tools.
  • Experience with physical testing of mechanical systems/components and failure analysis is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability in analyzing and solving problems in a disciplined fashion, ensuring clear understanding of the root cause(s) and efficient recommendations for resolution
  • Strong Technical Communication skills - both verbal and written
  • Must be self-motivated, have attention to details and able to integrate a large cross functional team
