About the position

The Principal Mechanical Engineer position at Bayer in Indianola, PA is a leadership role responsible for independently managing and delivering engineering projects. The role requires a deep understanding of technical disciplines and the ability to lead cross-functional teams, providing expertise and guidance throughout the project lifecycle. The engineer will define project requirements, improve processes, and maintain strategic relationships with suppliers and partners, all while demonstrating creativity and analytical skills in problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Defines requirements at the project level.
  • Provides expertise and/or technical scientific leadership across the project.
  • Applies understanding of product/line and clinical applications to define new product or process functionality.
  • Improves processes to enable more effective or efficient accomplishment of individual and team objectives.
  • Leads design reviews at the project level.
  • Independently plans and manages own work activities to department objectives.
  • Able to lead cross-functional teams on projects at the project level.
  • Proactively provides technical consulting, leadership and advice to peers and program management.
  • Initiates and maintains strategic supplier and partner relationships with key individuals of other organizations, requiring skill in persuasion and negotiations of critical issues.
  • Independently communicates information at the project level.
  • Demonstrates skill for independent analysis and synthesis of solutions for problems, exhibiting creativity, foresight, innovation and judgment in anticipating and solving these problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Recognized expert within a technical discipline and significant depth in multiple technical specialties.
  • Engineering knowledge crossing into multiple technical disciplines.
  • Consistently applies complex analytical methods.
  • Working knowledge and proven skills of PC computer operating system including Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Nice-to-haves

  • Master Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 10-12 years of experience as a recognized expert within a technical discipline and significant depth in multiple technical specialties.
