About the position

The Principal Nuclear Engineer- Mechanical in Engineering Services at PSEG Power is responsible for providing governance and oversight for multiple mechanical component activities at the Salem and Hope Creek Generating Stations. This role requires a Subject Matter Expert (SME) who will ensure industry-leading performance through a robust Preventative Maintenance program and Long-Term Asset Management Strategies that are benchmarked against industry best practices. The engineer will also ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards, making this position critical to the operational integrity and safety of the nuclear facilities. In this role, the Mechanical SME will maintain expertise on various mechanical and support systems, including chillers, HVAC, compressors, and emergency diesel generators. The engineer will utilize predictive maintenance technologies and will be responsible for mentoring site peers, providing support on complex and strategic issues, and performing third-party reviews of technical documents. Additionally, the Principal Nuclear Engineer will lead complex engineering analyses and address technical issues that exceed the capabilities of site personnel. This position also involves providing in-the-field support during refuel outages and supporting common projects that affect both sites as part of business and project planning. The engineer will represent PSEG Nuclear by leading and influencing decision-making at the industry level, providing oversight and recommendations for routine assessments, outage readiness, and preparation for outside organizational assessments. The role requires benchmarking industry best practices and incorporating learnings into programs and processes, ensuring that PSEG remains at the forefront of nuclear engineering excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains expertise on Salem and Hope Creek Mechanical and support systems
  • Mentors site peers
  • Provides support to the sites on complex and strategic issues
  • Performs third party reviews of technical documents
  • Leads complex engineering analysis and technical issues beyond the capabilities of the site personnel
  • Provides in-the-field support during refuel outages
  • Supports common projects affecting both sites as part of business and project planning
  • Supports resolutions of industry issues that affect both sites
  • Represents PSEG Nuclear by leading and influencing decision-making at the industry level
  • Provides oversight and recommendations for routine assessments, outage readiness and preparation for outside organizational assessments
  • Benchmarks industry best practices and incorporates learnings into programs/processes.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Engineering, Science or Technology
  • Minimum of 15 years experience directly related to turbine/generator asset management, maintenance, and/or technical support
  • Excellent written & oral communication skills
  • Flexibility with changing priorities and changing ways of doing business
  • Must meet nuclear requirements for Unescorted Site access
