About the position

The Principal Mechanical Engineer position at Johnson Controls is a key role within the Building Efficiency AirSide product engineering team, located in York, PA. This position involves a comprehensive range of engineering responsibilities focused on the design and application of Air Handling Units (AHUs). The role requires a blend of independent problem-solving and collaborative efforts to enhance engineering processes and product development.

Responsibilities

• Independently develops approaches to solutions and leads process improvement initiatives.
• Collaborates to determine the best techniques, procedures, and theories for mechanical equipment and components analysis, design, or research in the HVAC industry.
• Applies statistical analysis and quality principles to engineering tasks.
• Plans complex projects and product releases, driving results and coordinating cross-functional work with other departments.
• Provides technical direction to designers and technicians on specific assignments.
• Guides and mentors less experienced engineers in their development.
• Analyzes product design requirements and recommends effective solutions.
• Promotes Design for Manufacturability philosophy, simplifying complex specifications into logical design requirements.
• Completes full sets of designs for features or products, ensuring thorough documentation support for AHU component design and application.
• Participates in design reviews and communicates project and product updates effectively across functions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (ABET accredited) or related science.
• 5+ years of experience in a mechanical engineering role with project management experience.
• Experience with AutoCAD and Inventor is beneficial.
• Must be within commuting distance to York, PA, or open to relocation.
