About the position

Jabil has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Mechanical Integration Engineer to lead mechanical design engineering of data center facilities and infrastructure. This person will be a customer-facing Subject Matter Expert (SME) who will collaborate with client engineering teams, assist in conceptual designs, and work with our production sites. The Mechanical Integration Engineer will have experience in mission-critical facility design and functionality, and lead and oversee the mechanical systems essential for Data Center Infrastructure, Energy Storage Systems, and HVAC functionalities. This role will involve developing specifications, selecting key components, component placement, fastening methods, and transitioning design to manufacturing. Additionally, the position includes leading test process implementation and equipment selection to maintain the highest standards of operational excellence and reliability. The role will ideally sit in Austin, TX, with relocation available and is open to candidates looking to work remotely. The position requires 20% travel, both domestic and global. The Mechanical Integration Engineer will provide design and engineering drawing services to support manufacturing processes, ensuring compliance with relevant codes, industry standards, and regulations to guarantee structural integrity and safety. Responsibilities also include analyzing customer design proposals, researching and validating components, conducting component selection, and evaluating mechanical system operations to recommend modifications. The engineer will also be responsible for CAD model development, conducting root cause investigations, and managing relationships with mechanical component vendors and contract manufacturers. Keeping updated with the latest technologies and methods is essential to ensure competitive and cost-effective designs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design and engineering drawing services to support manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure that all shop drawings comply with relevant codes, industry standards, and regulations.
  • Analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate feasibility and cost of designs.
  • Research, design, validate, and analyze machined parts, castings, welded fabrications, and other components of structural and mechanical systems.
  • Compute and estimate loadings on structural members.
  • Provide technical input to identify and mitigate project risks that may impact project plans and schedules.
  • Conduct component selection, wire and cable routing, and system layout.
  • Assist and direct the analysis, design, and implementation of strategy for mechanical systems in Data Center Infrastructure, Energy Storage Systems, and HVAC.
  • Evaluate mechanical system operations and recommend modifications to rectify malfunctions or accommodate system requirement changes.
  • Develop CAD models and design data packages, completing finite element analysis techniques for stress and structural dynamics using ProE CREO, SolidWorks or other CAD software.
  • Review CAD/Technical Data Packages to determine and validate mechanical design requirements for components and their functions within a system environment.
  • Evaluate/optimize manufacturing assembly processes by designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.
  • Create detailed mechanical designs of components, sub-assemblies, and system integration.
  • Create a Bill of Materials (BOM) for release to manufacturing.
  • Conduct root cause investigation to troubleshoot complex mechanical design and material issues.
  • Monitor product delivery for quality and adherence to schedule.
  • Draft and contribute to test plans and specifications.
  • Perform tests, debug, and validate mechanical systems and support manufacturing processes.
  • Manage relationships with mechanical component vendors and contract manufacturers.
  • Propose potential R&D project ideas to enhance competency areas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical system integration.
  • Proven track record of successful system designs and implementations in a relevant industry.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, integration strategy, and system coordination.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to Energy Storage Systems and Data Center Infrastructure is preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Experience in WindChill and DevOps are a plus.
