About the position

Digital Energy, Inc. is seeking a Principal Mechanical/Plumbing Engineer to join our team in Thousand Oaks, CA. This role is pivotal as it involves working closely with the CEO/President to lead the firm through its growth phase. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mechanical and plumbing engineering, particularly in the design and commissioning of building systems and central heating and cooling plants. Our firm is well-established, with a strong portfolio of projects across California, including collaborations with significant clients such as the California Energy Commission and various educational institutions. In this position, you will be responsible for leading engineering work and guiding draftspersons and designers in mechanical and plumbing design related to building systems. You will manage client relationships from the project proposal stage through to construction and commissioning, ensuring that all aspects of the project are executed effectively. Your role will also involve developing basis of design documents and specifications, as well as the sequence of operations for engineered systems. Collaboration with other disciplines, including architecture, structure, electrical, fire alarm, and civil engineering, will be essential to ensure a cohesive approach to project delivery. You will follow projects from the design phase through to construction and operational stages, addressing any issues that arise during construction. Leading meetings and discussions related to project design and construction will be a key part of your responsibilities, as will maintaining regular communication with clients regarding project progress. Additionally, you will be tasked with managing the cost-effectiveness of projects throughout all phases of execution. This position offers a remote/hybrid work environment, competitive pay, and a comprehensive benefits package, including paid holidays, sick time, and robust health insurance benefits. The salary range for this position is between $125,000 and $150,000, commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering work and guide draftsperson/designer on mechanical/plumbing design related to building systems and central heating and cooling plants
  • Manage client relationships from project proposal stage through project construction and commissioning phases
  • Develop basis of design documents and specifications, sequence of operations for all aspects of engineered systems
  • Collaborate with other disciplines including architecture, structure, electrical, fire alarm, and civil disciplines
  • Follow projects through from design state to construction and operational stages
  • Problem solve a variety of issues that may come up during construction
  • Lead meetings and discussions related to all aspects of project design and construction
  • Maintain regular verbal and written communication with clients and project progress
  • Manage cost effectiveness of project during all phases of execution

Requirements

  • At least 10-years of consulting experience in mechanical/plumbing engineering related to buildings and central plants
  • Proven ability to meet schedule commitments on projects
  • Solid understanding of building codes related to design and construction
  • Professional Engineering License in California
  • Experience in leading projects in $1 - $10 million range for at least 5 years
  • Strong leadership skills and communication skills
  • Good understanding of energy efficiency measures in lighting and HVAC disciplines
