About the position

The Principal ML Research Scientist at Insight Global is a senior role focused on leading research and development initiatives in machine learning for federal clients. This fully remote position involves engaging with customers to develop innovative ML-based solutions, leading teams of researchers and engineers, and advancing the state of the art in machine learning and artificial intelligence, particularly in areas relevant to national security. The role requires a hands-on approach to customizing and creating machine learning algorithms and optimizing their performance across diverse datasets.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the principal investigator on contract R&D and internal R&D programs.
  • Engage R&D customers and transition partners to develop new business opportunities.
  • Lead teams of researchers and engineers in developing innovative ML-based approaches and solutions.
  • Customize and create various machine learning algorithms for multi-domain data.
  • Develop expertise in technical domains and automate feature extraction from datasets.
  • Modify and optimize various models within their technical domain, including NLP and computer vision tasks.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computational Linguistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field with 12+ years of experience, M.S. with 10+ years, or Ph.D. with 8+ years (Ph.D. preferred).
  • Industrial/academic experience advancing machine learning-based research with demonstrable results.
  • Proven track record in proposing, winning, and executing work with DoD R&D customers in the last 5 years.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience with technologies like NumPy, SciPy, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.
  • Strong customer relationship skills to identify technical challenges and recommend solutions.
  • Understanding of transformers and foundation models.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience deploying models on cloud and on-prem resources.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance with potential eligibility for Top Secret.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience deploying models on Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) constrained platforms.
  • Experience operating within agile project execution environments and proficiency with agile tools like JIRA.
  • Practical understanding of generative models and experience programming ML algorithms for GPUs.

Benefits

  • Competitive hourly compensation ranging from $88.94/hr to $103.37/hr.
  • Conversion salary between $185k and $215k.
