About the position

Oracle's MySQL Solutions Engineering team is seeking a Principal MySQL Solutions Engineer. This position is remote, with a preference for candidates located in Austin, TX or the West Coast, particularly the Bay Area. As a Principal Sales Consultant, you will provide direction and specialist knowledge in applying technology and applications to client businesses. Your role will involve facilitating customer understanding of products and applications through presentations, demonstrations, and benchmarks, while providing support throughout the sales process. In this role, you will be responsible for leading presales technical and functional support activities for prospective clients, ensuring customer satisfaction. You will act as a technical resource and mentor for less experienced Sales Consultants, focusing on large or complex sales opportunities that require creative and complex solutions. Your responsibilities will include developing productivity tools and training for other Sales Consultants, delivering outstanding Oracle presentations and demonstrations, and advising clients on overall architectural solutions. You will serve as a key member of the MySQL Solution Engineering team, driving overall MySQL Enterprise adoption. Collaborating with sales teams, you will help customers identify and define their core issues, determine paths to create real opportunities, and deliver presentations and demonstrations to showcase our solutions. You will handle a high volume of engagements in the fast-paced cloud computing market, maintain strong database technical knowledge, and develop compelling presentations and product demos to drive awareness and adoption of MySQL Database. Additionally, you will identify leads for potential partnerships and customer opportunities, collaborate with internal teams to define product roadmaps, and create and maintain white papers and demos about MySQL Database and relevant emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and specialist knowledge in applying technology/application to client business.
  • Facilitate customer product/application understanding through presentations, demonstrations, and benchmarks.
  • Lead presales technical/functional support activity to prospective clients and customers.
  • Act as a technical resource and mentor for less experienced Sales Consultants.
  • Focus on large or complex sales opportunities that need creative and complex solutions.

  • Deliver outstanding Oracle presentations and demonstrations.
  • Advise internal and external clients on overall architectural solutions.
  • Drive overall MySQL Enterprise adoption as a key member of the MySQL Solution Engineering team.
  • Help customers and prospects identify and define their core issues and deliver presentations and demonstrations.
  • Handle a high volume of engagements in the cloud computing market.
  • Maintain strong database technical knowledge to differentiate between varied database approaches.
  • Develop and deliver compelling presentations, product demos, and discussions to drive awareness and adoption of MySQL Database.
  • Identify leads for potential partnerships and customer opportunities in the MySQL Database Ecosystem.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to define the product roadmap and market positioning for MySQL Database offerings.
  • Create and maintain white papers, screencasts, demos, and videos about MySQL Database.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years vendor (sales and marketing) experience.
  • 7 years business experience with relevant computer applications or database/tools.
  • Ability to implement the most advanced product features.
  • Thorough knowledge of system and application design.
  • In-depth knowledge of competitors.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills: needs analysis, positioning, business justification, closing techniques.
  • Ability to persuade others through presentations, demonstrations, and written communication.
  • A/BS degree or equivalent; advanced degree highly desirable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Database experience, programming skills, Linux skills highly preferred.
  • Cloud skills and experience highly preferred.
  • AWS and/or GCP Certifications.
  • MySQL and/or OCI Certifications.
  • LAMP Stack hands-on experience.
  • Database Systems Certifications.
  • Experience working with MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and AWS databases.
  • Experience with public speaking at conferences and meetups.
