About the position

The Principal Network Communications Administrator at Northrop Grumman is responsible for maintaining and optimizing network operations, including LAN/WAN/VPNs, while ensuring compliance with security protocols. This role involves planning, designing, and implementing complex network solutions to meet customer requirements, as well as providing technical support and troubleshooting for network infrastructure. The position requires a Top Secret security clearance and offers opportunities for professional growth in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains smooth operation of LAN/WAN/VPNs.
  • Plans, designs, configures, and installs network hardware in support of customer requirements.
  • Maintains technical expertise in all areas of networks and computer hardware/software interconnection.
  • Proposes solutions to management.
  • Ensures all communication requirements are configured to optimize cost savings.
  • Creates and ensures appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions.
  • Provides regular monitoring and network analysis for systems planning.
  • Coordinates third-party maintenance for network equipment.
  • Designs networks or portions of networks, including hardware and software selection.
  • Develops technical solutions to complex problems requiring ingenuity and creativity.
  • Supports network teams in project designs and clarifies project requirements.
  • Performs troubleshooting analysis of network infrastructure and associated systems.
  • Documents network hardware and software technology components.
  • Installs and configures Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Implements and troubleshoots LAN technologies such as VLANs and spanning-tree protocols.
  • Provides third-level support and troubleshooting of network problems.
  • Interfaces regularly with customers to manage installation timelines and deliverables.
  • Manages timely resolution of critical and complex problems meeting SLA requirements.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree with 3 years of experience; OR a Bachelor's Degree with 5 years of experience; OR an Associate's Degree with 7 years of experience; OR a High School diploma with 9 years of experience.
  • Must have a DOD 8570 IAT level II baseline certification (example: Security+ CE).
  • Candidates must have a current DOD Top Secret level security clearance.
  • Must have work experience with designing and maintaining LAN/WAN based networks and managing routing protocols on large LAN environments.
  • Experience with Cisco hardware (routers, switches, and firewalls).

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering.
  • Network+ certification and/or a Cisco CCNA certification.
  • Experience in network design, analysis, and administration of routers, switches, hubs, and firewalls.
  • Experience with network analysis tools (i.e. WireShark, SolarWinds, Opnet).
  • Experience with configuring TACLANES.
  • Previous experience troubleshooting network procedures and best practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills or previous management of small teams.
