About the position

The Principal Network Engineer at Comerica is responsible for managing, designing, and improving the enterprise network. This role involves collaborating with network architects, leading engineering teams, and providing technical support for network implementation projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in network design and management, particularly in medium to large-scale enterprise environments, and will be instrumental in driving infrastructure modernization projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, design, and improve Comerica's enterprise network.
  • Assist network architects with design and implementation of network technologies.
  • Provide guiding principles and leadership to engineering teams.
  • Drive innovation for incorporating new modern technologies in the enterprise network.
  • Lead buildout of solutions and provide Level 3 technical support.
  • Coordinate and take lead of assigned projects in all technical and communication aspects.
  • Design and deploy new applications and enhancements to existing applications.
  • Develop automated test solutions and manage scripted code.
  • Perform configuration and maintenance of applications and servers.
  • Support enterprise application performance management and monitoring solutions.
  • Design and perform server and security audits and system backup procedures.
  • Create and maintain a schedule for updates and upgrades to systems.
  • Incorporate security-by-design into all solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve high-level network and wireless issues.
  • Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develop improvement strategies.
  • Provide orientation and training to end users for modified and new systems.

Requirements

  • Experience in network design, implementation, management, and documentation of medium-large scale enterprise networks.
  • Familiarity with datacenter technologies (Nexus Dashboard, Cisco ACI).
  • Experience with switching (Catalyst Center), routing, Wi-Fi, and Firewall/VPN on Cisco platforms.
  • Knowledge of RemoteAccessVPN/AnyConnect on Firepower/ASA clusters and integration with NAC solutions (Cisco ISE).
  • Cloud networking experience (AWS, Azure, GCP) and familiarity with on-prem to cloud connectivity solutions (BGP peering, Cloud Exchange).
  • CCNP Enterprise (R&S) knowledge level required; CCIE is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SolarWinds for compliance, configuration management, and monitoring.
  • Familiarity with LiveAction or LibreNMS monitoring.
