About the position

The Principal Network Engineer will be a key member of the ARINC Global Network Systems Engineering and Architecture team, responsible for the design, development, testing, and evaluation of network communication technologies. This role supports the ARINC Global Network, which provides reliable and secure networking solutions for aviation, airport, government, and transportation sectors. The engineer will lead projects, develop technical solutions, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring compliance with security and cybersecurity methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical lead on projects with moderate to highly complex environments.
  • Develop and implement project plans within budgetary, schedule, and resource constraints.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering team to develop technical design solutions.
  • Capture, analyze, decompose, and create requirements for network systems and products.
  • Design, develop, document, test, and maintain network systems of varying complexity.
  • Author, review, and maintain documentation throughout the system design life cycle.
  • Apply security and cybersecurity methodologies to network and systems design.
  • Analyze and recommend contemporary and emerging technologies for deployment across the global network.
  • Configure and install various network devices and services such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Champion engineering design standards and best practices.
  • Mentor junior engineers in the systems development life cycle.
  • Provide post-fielding support for operational issues in a multi-routing network infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in STEM fields or equivalent experience (8 years without a degree, 5 years with an advanced degree, or 12 years relevant experience without a degree).
  • Experience in systems engineering and solutions through all phases of the SDLC life cycle.
  • Experience designing large-scale network architectures involving multiple servers and networks.
  • Experience with data network technologies (OSPF, BGP, MPLS, etc.).
  • Five or more years of experience developing and managing technical requirements.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Active CCNA or CCNP certification.
  • Understanding of formal configuration management processes and automation tools like Ansible.
  • Experience with UNIX/Linux operating systems and MPLS circuits.
  • Knowledge of VoIP Telephony and SIP with experience in voice network design.
  • Experience as a mentor or team lead.
