About the position

The Principal Network Engineer at UW Medicine IT Services is a key role responsible for overseeing the architecture and management of network systems, ensuring the security and efficiency of enterprise-level technology. This position requires extensive experience in network engineering and a strong ability to lead technical projects, mentor team members, and optimize technology use within the organization. Responsibilities

• Provide a high level of expertise in assigned domains of networks architecture, threat protection, and load balancing.
• Strategize, develop, enhance, and govern architectural standards.
• Manage technical portfolios, research trends, create technology roadmaps, and present recommendations to leadership.
• Optimize the use of technologies and perform cost analysis.
• Leverage technical expertise in impactful, enterprise-level projects.
• Develop and deliver training across the department in area of expertise.
• Lead large scale incident resolution.
• Identify and build service management improvements.
• Provide advice, coaching, and mentorship to team members on technical expertise.
• Represent the team for vendor management and technical leadership needs.
• Participate in a 24x7 weekly on-call rotation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience.
• 10+ years' experience in network engineering, implementation, or operations, including 8+ years of experience with administering systems.
• 2+ years of experience developing and leading technical training for teams.
• 6+ years of experience providing advanced support for enterprise systems and technologies.
• 2+ years of experience primarily responsible for an enterprise technology.
• 1+ years of managing vendor relationships and negotiating contracts.
• 1+ years of implementing and improving processes.
• Active member in local technology user groups or professional organizations.
• Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining detailed documentation.
• 1+ years of managing technical requirements of an enterprise system.
• Proven experience implementing and maintaining advanced level security and network infrastructure.
• Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP stack, IPv4, IPV6, Multicast, and related troubleshooting.
• Advanced level experience with routing and protocols OSPF, BGP, Multicast STP, and MSTP.
• Advanced level experience in the development and support of production mission critical systems.
• Advanced level disciplined troubleshooting methodology.
• Advanced level experience maintaining detailed configuration and testing documentation.
• Advanced understanding of AAA and IP network security.
• Advanced knowledge of 802.11 family and related protocols.
• Advanced level experience with VLANs, DHCP, IP management, and other necessary data network standards.
• Exemplary track record of successful design and deployment of major network constructs.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Visio, Wireshark, Nmap, and Tcpdump or equivalent.
