Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Network Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Palmdale, CA. The Principal Network Engineer will be responsible for developing engineering and automated deployments for datacenter system configurations, executing engineering projects on schedule, and collaborating with engineers to troubleshoot and redline documented procedures. The role also involves implementing engineering changes to the system as required and integrating and testing software and/or hardware systems in complex IT systems. The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Develop engineering and automated deployments for datacenter system configurations.
  • Execute engineering projects on schedule.
  • Collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot and redline documented procedures.
  • Implement engineering changes to the system as required.
  • Integrate and test software and/or hardware systems in complex IT systems.
  • Work closely with Engineers and Technicians in a lab environment.
  • Demonstrate good planning, coordination, and documentation skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 2 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 0 years of related engineering experience.
  • Experience in or knowledge of scripting/programming languages such as Python.
  • Experience with deploying, configuring, and hardening Network Devices.
  • Experience with Linux Operating Systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Server and Workstation operating systems.
  • Experience with Solaris 10 and 11 operating systems.
  • Working knowledge of routing & switching concepts and protocols.
  • Familiarity with network simulation tools and load testing (e.g. CML, GNS3).
  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP/PAR).

Nice-to-haves

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent certification.
  • Familiar with Spine and Leaf architecture.
  • Familiar with government grade encryption gear such as TACLANES.
  • Familiar with Agile methodology.
  • Familiar with version control, GIT experience preferred.
  • Ability to author and maintain technical installation, configuration, and update documentation.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.
