About the position

The Principal Network & Security Engineer role is a critical position that requires a unique blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and leadership skills. This position is responsible for managing and securing the organization's network infrastructure while driving innovation and best practices in the field. The successful candidate will support a 24/7 financial entity, which includes after-hours on-call support. This role is pivotal in ensuring the integrity, security, and efficiency of the network systems that support the organization's operations. In this position, the engineer will design and architect complex network infrastructures, including LAN/WAN systems, tailored to meet organizational needs and future scalability requirements. The role involves leading the implementation of robust security measures such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access control policies. Staying abreast of the latest advancements in network technologies and security threats is essential, as is the ability to recommend and implement new solutions as necessary. The engineer will also be expected to mentor and train junior network and security engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team. Compliance with bank and relevant industry regulations and standards is a key responsibility, alongside installing, configuring, and supporting networking hardware and software, including routers, switches, and DNS. Collaboration with other engineers within the organization is crucial to maximize the use of network technology capabilities. The engineer will work within the Network team to plan and manage capacity, provide full visibility into the health of the network, and respond to and resolve critical production network incidents. Additionally, the role includes creating and implementing network security measures, conducting regular network performance tests, and handling security-related duties such as patching and compliance tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Design and architect complex network infrastructures, including LAN/WAN systems, to meet organizational needs and future scalability requirements
  • Lead the implementation of security measures such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access control policies
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in network technologies and security threats, recommending and implementing new solutions as needed
  • Mentor and train junior network and security engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement
  • Ensure compliance with bank and relevant industry regulations and standards
  • Install, configure, and support networking hardware and software, including routers, switches, DNS, etc.
  • Collaborate with other engineers within the organization to make the best possible use of network technology capabilities
  • Plan and manage network capacity, provide full visibility into the health of the network, and respond to and resolve critical production network incidents
  • Create and implement network security measures including cybersecurity
  • Conduct regular network performance tests
  • Perform security-related duties such as patching and compliance-related tasks.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in network engineering and information security roles
  • Strong expertise in network protocols, architectures, and security frameworks
  • In-depth knowledge of cybersecurity principles, risk management, and threat mitigation strategies
  • Proficiency in configuring and managing network devices, firewalls, and security appliances
  • Experience with cloud technologies and securing cloud-based infrastructures
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong leadership and project management abilities
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Previous work experience managing and automating network devices such as Fortinet, Arista, Juniper, Cisco, Palo Alto, etc.
  • Knowledge of networking hardware including CPUs, wiring, and routers
  • Familiarity with network analysis tools
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of L2/L3 networking protocols
  • Experience with provisioning and managing large scale networks using network automation
  • Ability to take ownership and responsibility of critical issues and conclude them to resolution.
