About the position

As a Principal Performance Architect at Microsoft, you will play a crucial role in the silicon engineering team, focusing on System on Chip (SoC) performance modeling. This position involves developing methodologies for performance analysis, collaborating with various teams to enhance architectural designs, and ensuring that the SoC and IPs meet high-performance standards. You will be part of a dynamic team responsible for delivering innovative custom silicon solutions that drive Microsoft's hardware products.

Responsibilities

  • Develop performance modeling methodologies for System on Chip (SoC) and Intellectual Property (IP) cycles.
  • Create accurate and approximate performance models and analysis tools using C++ and Python.
  • Identify performance bottlenecks by collaborating with Micro-architects and the RTL team using workload information.
  • Propose architectural and microarchitectural changes with quantitative justifications.
  • Verify the correlation of SOC performance models to the Register Transfer Level (RTL) implementation.
  • Collaborate across teams to find optimal solutions with a One Microsoft mindset.
  • Challenge the status quo to enable world-class SOC products.

Requirements

  • 9+ years of related technical engineering experience OR a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 6+ years of technical engineering experience OR a Master's degree in the same fields with 4+ years of experience OR a Doctorate degree with 3+ years of experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in computer architecture, System on Chip (SOC), and system-software architectures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience developing SOC performance modeling techniques and benchmarks from conception to microarchitecture specification.
  • Significant understanding of input/output (I/O), memory subsystems, coherency flows, interconnect, and Quality of Service (QoS) traffic.
  • Knowledge of performance monitors and post-silicon SOC performance tuning.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
