About the position
As a Principal Platform Engineer I in the Data Platforms Orchestration Services (DPOS) organization at Spectrum, you will be instrumental in delivering high-quality releases by defining application architecture and developing cloud-based backend services. This role emphasizes innovation, collaboration, and the ability to drive large-scale initiatives while ensuring performance and resilience in the systems you design and maintain.
Responsibilities
- Define application architecture and design backend services.
- Develop, troubleshoot, maintain, optimize, and scale cloud-based backend services.
- Drive innovation into the product suite.
- Collaborate with product management and engineering teams to align on strategy.
- Lead efforts to transition legacy systems into modular, service-oriented architectures.
- Design and build scalable back-end services focusing on performance and resilience.
- Implement security measures and advocate for data governance.
- Develop infrastructure architecture strategies and roadmaps.
- Monitor, enhance, and troubleshoot infrastructure and APIs.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software development experience (JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, Python).
- 6+ years of experience with SQL and non-relational databases.
- 6+ years of experience in a cloud-based platform engineering role.
- Bachelor's Degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
- Extensive understanding of code versioning tools such as Git.
- Extensive knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals (object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design).
- Experience with building cloud-based, highly-automated, near real-time data processing platforms.
Nice-to-haves
- Master's Degree or equivalent experience with design, architecture, and leadership.
- Excellent proficiency in microservices, event-driven architecture, and stream-processing systems like Kafka.
- Experience with NoSQL systems such as MongoDB, Cockroach DB, Apache Cassandra.
