About the position

As a Principal Platform Engineer at Spectrum, you will lead the design, execution, and ongoing support of mission-critical platforms that facilitate reporting, analytics, and engineering needs across the organization. This role involves overseeing the design and implementation of critical initiatives across multiple systems, ensuring the infrastructure supports various organizations while maintaining high uptime and adherence to service level agreements (SLAs). You will be responsible for diagnosing complex issues, implementing security measures, and advocating for data governance, all while focusing on enhancing the customer experience and reducing operational costs.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, execution, and ongoing support of mission-critical platforms.
• Oversee the design and implementation of critical initiatives involving multiple systems.
• Coordinate the development of infrastructure supporting multiple organizations.
• Maintain uptime and uphold SLAs for the platform.
• Develop infrastructure architecture strategies, standards, target architectures, and roadmaps.
• Monitor and troubleshoot platform quality issues.
• Identify bottlenecks and bugs, devising solutions to these problems.
• Implement security measures and advocate for data governance.
• Reduce compute, bandwidth, and storage costs.
• Diagnose complex issues and execute the best resolution.
• Ensure alignment to drive cross-platform consistency.
• Architect, review, and harden the overall platform.
• Deliver quality results to the platform engineering team.
• Collaborate with business and technical teams.

Requirements

• 10+ years of cloud-based platform engineering role experience
• 7+ years of software development experience (JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, Python)
• 7+ years of exposure to SQL and non-relational databases
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• Strong background in data science and operations with a desire to develop skills in AI platforms
• Expert understanding of code versioning tools such as Git
• Expert knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals (object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving, complexity analysis)
• Extensive experience with building cloud-based, highly-automated, near real-time data processing platforms
• Demonstrated in-depth problem-solving skills, especially in complex systems
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
• Ability to learn new technologies quickly
• Demonstrated in-depth analytical and troubleshooting abilities.

Nice-to-haves

• 2-4 Years working as a data scientist or in modeling and analytics role
• 2-4 Years in a DevOps role, or building and deploying infrastructure to build, deploy, and monitor applications
• 2-4 Years in a role leading technical teams
