About the position

As a Principal Product Design Architect at Magic Leap, you will play a pivotal role in leading the technical architecture of next-generation augmented reality devices. This position focuses on designing and implementing system architectures that meet industrial design intent while optimizing design for manufacturing (DFM) and assembly (DFA). You will drive technical strategy, tackle complex architectural challenges, and create innovative design patterns that enhance AR experiences, working closely with cross-functional teams throughout the product development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end mechanical design for a device or system.
• Push the state-of-the-art in design, materials, and assembly processes to find solutions for highly constrained design spaces.
• Convert the Industrial Design team's vision into mechanical designs that meet product KPIs.
• Collaborate across the entire product development lifecycle, focusing on early-stage ideation and solution development.
• Work with cross-functional teams from new technology integration to high-volume manufacturing.

Requirements

• Over 15 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering design of mobile, handheld, or wearable consumer electronics products.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Master-level CAD design experience with the ability to iterate quickly and present trade-offs and risks.
• Expert level in Creo, with the ability to work in NX preferred.
• Understanding of FEA for structural and thermal simulation.
• Experience designing for Human Factors and user experience.
• Experience with DFM and in designing, prototyping, testing, and shipping high-volume products.
• Strong influence and collaboration skills.

• Mentored early career Mechanical Engineers and helped multiply impact through coaching and directing others.
• Expert level NX experience.
• Master's or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering discipline.
