About the position

Meta is seeking a Principal Product Design Engineer to join the Mixed Reality team, focusing on the design and development of complex mixed reality headsets. This role is crucial for addressing challenging mechanical design issues while ensuring ergonomics, performance, aesthetics, and usability are balanced. The engineer will also mentor the engineering team and contribute to innovative design solutions and advanced architectures.

Responsibilities

• Tackle challenging mechanical design problems and develop complex mixed reality headsets.
• Mentor and guide the engineering team to enhance technical capabilities and foster continuous learning.
• Support forward-looking pathfinding design problems and innovate on complex mechanisms, subassemblies, and assemblies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality experiences across various markets and platforms.
• Oversee multiple projects, scale design resources, ensure deadlines are met, and set measurable goals for team members.
• Develop design talent and foster a culture of inclusion and belonging.

Requirements

• Minimum of 15 years of experience in mechanical design engineering with a proven track record in consumer product development.
• Expert in CAD and knowledgeable about manufacturing processes and materials, including DfX.
• Experience working collaboratively with Product, Engineering, Design, Content, and User Research teams.
• Proven leadership skills with a track record of mentoring and developing engineering teams.
• Demonstrated ability to innovate and solve complex design problems.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills to drive strategy and execution.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in AR or VR consumer products.
• Experience using Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
• Six Sigma Certification.
• Experience working in CM, JDM, and ODM/OEM development models.
• Experience with simulation tools (FEA, CFD, etc.).
