About the position

We are looking for a Principal Product Designer to join our growing design team at Afterpay, a part of Cash App. Our focus is to create world-class experiences for our customers in the financial space. As a Principal Product Designer, you will play a crucial role in rethinking established paradigms and bringing creative solutions into existence. You will take a product, feature, or experience from ideation to production, which includes vision setting, designing solutions, prototyping, and overseeing implementation. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with cross-functional teams including other designers, researchers, product managers, analysts, and engineers. The Banking team is committed to bringing financial freedom to all our customers, and you will be at the core of Cash App's mission—redefining the world's relationship with money. Your work will help make Cash App the primary bank of choice for our customers by designing banking services that are relatable, instantly available, and universally accessible. You will work on products and features that help customers deposit, save, spend, invest, and manage their money effectively. We pride ourselves on fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and impact. Our team has been distributed since day one, allowing many roles to be performed remotely. We tailor our experience to ensure our employees are creative, productive, and happy, regardless of their location. This position requires a strong understanding of the end-to-end design process, from identifying customer needs and pain points to delivering exceptional customer experiences. You will also be expected to lead with the voice of the customer and have a deep understanding of human-centered design principles.

Responsibilities

  • Design and prototype user experiences for banking products and features.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to influence product outcomes.
  • Oversee the implementation of design solutions and ensure quality.
  • Conduct user research to identify customer needs and pain points.
  • Establish a design voice in critique settings to support team members.
  • Apply consumer insights and metrics to inform design decisions.
  • Mentor and provide feedback to junior designers.
  • Create interactive prototypes to enhance the customer story.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience as a Product Designer.
  • Strong understanding of the end-to-end design process.
  • Experience in designing for multiple platforms, including mobile (iOS and Android) and web.
  • Ability to interpret data and make informed design decisions based on qualitative and quantitative insights.
  • Experience collaborating effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong systems thinking skills to connect the dots across the customer journey.
  • Comfort with an iterative design process that includes soliciting and acting on feedback.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience mentoring other designers and providing coaching.
  • Previous work experience in a consumer-focused tech organization.
  • Familiarity with customer journey mapping and strategic design.
  • Active influencer with strong business acumen.
