About the position

The Principal Product Designer at EquipmentShare is a key role focused on advocating for users and leading design initiatives across a portfolio of products. This position requires a blend of strategic thinking and hands-on design work, acting as a player-coach to elevate the design team's craft while collaborating closely with product and engineering teams. The role emphasizes creating user-centered solutions, mentoring team members, and driving innovation in a remote-first environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end creative delivery for complex design and technical problems across a portfolio of products.
  • Act as a role model within the Design team, actively developing work and mentoring others.
  • Partner with product, engineering, and other designers to discover and deliver optimal market solutions.
  • Lead strategic alignment across organizations, shaping core UX disciplines and processes.
  • Set standards for design excellence and create scalable mechanisms and best practices.
  • Synthesize complex customer, market, and business data to inform customer experience and business strategy.
  • Lead cross-organizational design reviews and participate in product and tech debates, influencing outcomes for customers.
  • Manage escalations and define measurable results, achieving them through direct ownership or influence.
  • Drive solutions for complex design and technical problems, making trade-offs between long-term customer needs and immediate business needs.
  • Identify tech investments and improvements that unlock innovation and unblock delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in product design or UX.
  • 5 years of experience leading design projects, people, or teams.
  • 3 years of experience working with executive leaders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience working in a complex, cross-functional organization.
  • Working knowledge or experience in the Construction or Fleet Management Industries.
  • Portfolio highlighting multiple projects and direct contributions.
