About the position

The Principal Product Designer at EquipmentShare is a key role focused on advocating for users and enhancing the design team's capabilities. This position involves leading complex design projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and setting standards for design excellence. The designer will work remotely but may occasionally meet with teams in common hubs. The role emphasizes strategic thinking, mentorship, and the ability to navigate complex technical challenges to deliver innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end creative delivery for complex design and technical problems across a portfolio of products.
  • Act as a role model within the Design team, mentoring others through active involvement.
  • Partner with product, engineering, and other designers to discover and deliver optimal market solutions.
  • Lead strategic alignment across organizations, shaping core UX disciplines and processes.
  • Set standards for design excellence and create scalable mechanisms and best practices.
  • Synthesize complex customer, market, and business data to inform customer experience and business strategy.
  • Lead cross-organizational design reviews and influence product and tech outcomes.
  • Manage escalations and define measurable results, achieving them through direct ownership or influence.
  • Drive solutions for complex design and technical problems, making trade-offs between long-term customer needs and immediate business needs.
  • Identify tech investments and improvements that unlock innovation and unblock delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in product design or UX.
  • 5 years of experience leading design projects, people, or teams.
  • 3 years of experience working with executive leaders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience working in a complex, cross-functional organization.
  • Working knowledge or experience in the Construction or Fleet Management Industries.
  • Portfolio highlighting multiple projects and direct contributions.
