About the position

Discover Financial Services is seeking a Principal Product Owner for Network Security to join our team in Riverwoods, IL. In this role, you will be responsible for defining the product vision at the team level and prioritizing the work that delivers value to our customers. You will assess the performance of existing product lines and help shape their direction while developing and executing strategic product plans. Your contributions will be vital in achieving specific goals for each product, evaluating product performance, and identifying innovations that enhance business value and address customer needs. You will actively manage and escalate risks and customer-impacting issues to management, ensuring that our products meet the highest quality standards and comply with applicable regulations. As a Principal Product Owner, you will build and maintain the product backlog, ensuring it aligns with our Objectives and Key Results (OKRs). You will hold regular meetings with the product team to keep the backlog updated and ensure that product features and processes adhere to Discover's compliance and risk management standards. You will also participate in developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and ensure alignment with senior leadership. Your role will involve creating and maintaining key product documentation, defining non-functional requirements, and executing strategic product roadmaps to enhance existing products or develop new ones. Collaboration is key in this position; you will interact with stakeholders to align on product vision and roadmap, leveraging customer insights and data to define product features. You will contribute to defining the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and be responsible for delivering features and user stories that align with the broader product vision. Additionally, you will define testing frameworks for product features and work with data stewards to ensure data quality controls are implemented. Your ability to monitor and analyze product performance metrics will be crucial in making strategic recommendations for improvements throughout the product lifecycle. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and execute go-to-market strategies, fostering a culture of accountability and ownership within the product team.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with stakeholders to define the product vision at the team level.
  • Prioritize the product backlog to achieve Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).
  • Hold meetings with the product team to continuously update the product backlog.
  • Ensure product features and processes align with compliance and risk management standards.
  • Participate in the development of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and ensure alignment with senior leadership.
  • Create and maintain key product documentation such as customer journey maps and technical specifications.
  • Identify and define key non-functional requirements for product metrics.
  • Define and execute strategic product roadmaps to enhance existing products or develop new ones.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders on key product considerations and align with product vision.
  • Leverage customer insights and data to define product features and roadmap.
  • Contribute to defining the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and deliver features/user stories for the product roadmap.
  • Define functional and non-functional product requirements and ensure completeness.
  • Create and validate user story acceptance criteria.
  • Define appropriate testing frameworks for product features.
  • Monitor and analyze product performance metrics and make strategic recommendations for improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and execute go-to-market strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, Mathematics, Economics, Statistics or related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in Product Management or Engineering in Financial Services or Tech Industry.
  • In lieu of a degree, 8+ years of experience in Product Management or Engineering in Financial Services or Tech Industry.

Nice-to-haves

  • Agile Certification - Scrum Master or Scrum Product Owner
  • Strong understanding of network security technologies (firewall, IDS/IPS, SWG, Remote Access, etc.)
  • Experience defining and prioritizing the Firewall and IDS/IPS product roadmap
  • Knowledge of both on-prem and cloud deployments/architecture
  • Compliance/regulation experience
  • Automation experience/vision
  • Collaboration with other product owners, chapter leaders, engineers, and stakeholders.
