About the position

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a highly motivated Production Test Engineer to support the testing of production Engines and Auxiliary Power Units (APU) at the West Palm Beach Engine Center. This role is crucial in ensuring that every engine meets all test requirements and resolving any issues that may arise during testing. The Production Test Engineer will work with various engine models, including the F135, FT4000 Gas Turbine, PW1100G NEO, and 16 types of APUs. The position requires effective communication with team members and external engineering groups to meet program requirements, making it both a demanding and rewarding role. In this position, the engineer will execute troubleshooting on Engine and APU test systems, including hardware and software components. They will evaluate and trend performance data to ensure compliance with performance specifications outlined in the test procedures. Documentation of recommendations for engine tests and communication with operations and quality groups are also key responsibilities. The engineer will need to familiarize themselves with in-house processes, including analyzing test data and processing compliance and customer requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering, particularly in aeronautics or related fields, with significant experience in engine/test cell or powerplant operations. Responsibilities

  • Execute troubleshooting on Engine & APU, test systems hardware, and software.
  • Evaluate/Trend Engine/APU performance data/execution to ensure engines meet performance specifications outlined in the engine specific test procedures.
  • Document PTE recommendations for engine test and notify ops/quality group.
  • Communicate with external engineering groups as issues arise during tests.
  • Flow down operator/inspector communications as required, from model managers, test integration leads and test management.
  • Become familiar with in-house processes like analyzing test data, working with acquisition system, and processing compliance/customer requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Aeronautics or related field with significant engine/test cell/powerplant background and 8+ years relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field, 5+ years' experience with engines, modules, systems, or equivalent is required.
  • Working knowledge of Engine or APU systems operations, special test equipment, APU or Engine test organization.
  • Experience with Engine or APU test, flight line and/or engine shop maintenance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of engines / APUs / engine test facility and system level functionality
  • Familiar with vibration, temperature, force, pressure, and flow instrumentation
  • Awareness of SPS / CORE / PMFEAs / ORM / 3Ps / Continuous Process Improvement
  • Understanding of Operational and Engineering organizational structures
  • Ability to work in a diverse / high-impact, high stress environments across multiple disciplines.
  • Familiarity with production specific acquisition systems (MICADS/ICADS/ITE) and support tools (Github/SAP/Solumina/Unigraph/Insight/Microsoft O365/Jetbal/Engine Wise/Power BI)
