This position is part of the Space Systems Development (SSD) business unit, which develops next-generation concepts and systems to advance our future of living and working in space sustainably. We are looking for a Propulsion Lead for a spacecraft. As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers and technicians, you will apply your extensive experience in space propulsion to stand up a propulsion team and deliver propulsion systems for the next generation of orbital space vehicles. Your work will encompass the complete life cycle of the propulsion system, including definition, interfaces, conceptual design, detailed design, component development, procurement, assembly, verification, and operation. You will collaborate with both Blue Origin groups and external suppliers to develop, procure, build, and test the propulsion system. As the project lead, you will manage project schedules, budgets, tasks, risks, and assignments, and prepare for and support project and technical reviews. You will lead a team of engineers to complete project objectives, with potential opportunities for official people management as the team grows.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the complete life cycle of propulsion systems from definition to operation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers for system development.
  • Oversee project schedules, budgets, tasks, risks, and assignments.
  • Prepare for and support project and technical reviews.
  • Lead a team of engineers to achieve project objectives.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Physics, Systems Engineering or related technical subject area.
  • 8+ years of directly applicable experience in propulsion or fluid systems.
  • Experience analyzing applicable propulsion systems or components.
  • Experience with the components of propulsion disciplines.
  • Experience working with suppliers.
  • Experience in the build and test phases of a project.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Familiarity with either agile or waterfall project management.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Physics, Systems Engineering or related technical subject area.
  • 10+ years of directly applicable experience in propulsion or fluid systems.
  • Experience with cryogenic propulsion systems.
  • Experience with reaction control systems.
  • Experience with propulsion system analysis.
  • Experience with human-rated systems.
  • Desire to do people management in the future.
