About the position

The Principal Research Analyst at Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute is responsible for conducting advanced research in computer and information science. This role involves developing solutions to complex scientific computational problems, requiring a deep understanding of logical and mathematical functions. The analyst will lead research projects, mentor junior staff, and collaborate on software system design and implementation, while also contributing to proposals and reports.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research into fundamental computer and information science.
• Develop solutions to major scientific computational problems.
• Apply expertise in computer program and system specification, design, planning, implementation, and validation for complex research projects.
• Assess performance requirements and alternative approaches based on application domain knowledge.
• Investigate and analyze feasibility and project resource requirements, making recommendations for staffing and scheduling.
• Supervise and mentor junior research staff.
• Specify, design, and implement complex software systems and applications, or modify existing software to meet research needs.
• Document designs and prepare operating instructions.
• Contribute to proposals and reports.

Requirements

• Master's degree or foreign equivalent in information systems management, computer science, or related field.
• Knowledge of management of information systems, database analysis and design, data mining, business intelligence, applied statistics, and data analytics computing.
