About the position

The Principal Research Scientist role at Peraton involves leading innovative research and development projects in the fields of Radio Frequency Machine Learning (RFML), Digital Signal Processing (DSP), and Software Defined Radio (SDR). The position requires a strong background in these areas, with responsibilities that include designing advanced RF algorithms, developing signal processing solutions, and collaborating with teams to address complex challenges. The ideal candidate will also engage in business development efforts and communicate research findings effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the design, development, and prototyping of advanced RF algorithms.
  • Developing and implementing signal processing solutions for wireless systems.
  • Conducting research on wireless standards, including LTE and open-source stack implementations.
  • Utilizing modern machine learning frameworks (e.g., Keras, Tensorflow, Pytorch) to develop innovative solutions.
  • Working with software-defined radio platforms (e.g., Ettus USRPs) and software (e.g., GNU Radio).
  • Collaborating with internal and external teams to research concepts and develop state-of-the-art solutions to complex problems.
  • Communicating research findings through presentations and publications to external customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Developing, implementing, and analyzing signal processing and wireless communication techniques using Matlab, Python, and C/C++.
  • Writing design documents, simulation reports, and system documentation.
  • Debugging and testing prototypes on third-party SDR platforms.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 12 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 10 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 7 years with Ph.D.
  • Strong background in RFML, DSP, and/or SDR.
  • Highly proficient RF domain knowledge.
  • Experience with wireless communication techniques and standards.
  • Expertise in Matlab, Python, and/or C/C++.
  • Ability to contribute to Business Development with the government customer.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must possess an active TS/SCI w/ Polygraph clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with modern machine learning development frameworks.
  • Experience with third-party SDR platforms and software.
  • Familiarity and experience with distributed signal processing techniques.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $190,000 - $304,000 based on experience and other factors.
