About the position

Datadog is seeking a dynamic and experienced Principal Sales Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will provide essential technical expertise through various channels, including sales presentations, product demonstrations, industry speaking events, executive meetings, and product evaluations. Your primary responsibility will be to understand customer needs and effectively demonstrate the value of our platform to prospective clients, ensuring a seamless transition from sales to implementation. As a Principal Sales Engineer, you will develop and maintain a strong knowledge of Datadog's product offerings, observability trends, and common architectures. You will provide guidance to prospective customers and internal sales teams, contributing to the success of strategic sales opportunities by closely collaborating with the account team to devise and enrich sales strategies. Your role will also involve offering industry expertise and providing mentorship throughout the sales lifecycle. You will be responsible for delivering tailored customer demos, executive briefings, and product training sessions, ensuring that prospective customers have a comprehensive understanding of our offerings. Additionally, you will contribute use cases, best practices, trends, and product positioning to Datadog's sales strategy and help develop strategies for entering new markets. Building relationships with customers, including CIOs, CTOs, architects, technical staff, and business representatives, will be crucial as they begin their observability modernization journey with Datadog. You will proactively engage and communicate with customers and Datadog's product, sales, and sales engineering teams regarding product feedback and the competitive landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a strong knowledge of Datadog's product offerings and observability trends.
  • Collaborate closely with the account team to devise and enrich sales strategies.
  • Provide mentorship throughout the sales lifecycle.
  • Deliver tailored customer demos, executive briefings, and product training sessions.
  • Contribute use cases, best practices, trends, and product positioning to Datadog's sales strategy.
  • Assist in developing strategies for entering new markets.
  • Build relationships with customers including CIOs, CTOs, and technical staff.
  • Engage and communicate with customers regarding product feedback and competitive landscape.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7+ years in Sales Engineering or experience as a Chief Technology Officer deploying observability & security technology.
  • Strong entrepreneurial ability and desire to make a large impact.
  • Passionate about educating customers on observability and security risks.
  • Ability to build and execute an evaluation plan with a customer.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the competitive landscape.
  • Experienced in programming/scripting with languages such as Java, Python, Ruby, Go, Node.JS, PHP, and .NET.
  • Extensive background in Enterprise positioning and line of business value selling.
  • Willingness to travel via auto, train, or air up to 40% of the time.
