About the position

The Principal Scientific Advisor at MD Anderson Cancer Center is responsible for leading the Thoracic/Head & Neck Therapeutics Program (THNTP) in drug discovery and development. This role involves strategic planning, management, and supervision of research initiatives aimed at advancing cancer treatment through innovative technologies and collaborative partnerships. The advisor will oversee daily operations, manage research projects, and ensure the program's alignment with its goals of improving patient outcomes and advancing scientific knowledge in oncology.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Thoracic and Head & Neck Medical Oncology's drug discovery and development programs.
  • Set strategic goals for the THNTP, including research and commercialization initiatives.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the THNTP, managing research projects and personnel.
  • Direct the development of business plans, scientific proposals, and budget proposals.
  • Collect and report data on research outcomes for new initiatives.
  • Establish strategies for advanced research and development technologies.
  • Identify opportunities for funding and licensing intellectual property.
  • Build collaborative relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Apply expertise in cancer biology and pharmacology to direct research strategy.
  • Translate research findings for publication and market the program.
  • Assist in recruitment and retention of innovative team members.
  • Maintain program goals through regular meetings and educational sessions.
  • Oversee fiscal activities including budgeting and reporting.
  • Ensure financing for short- and long-term goals through fundraising initiatives.
  • Manage physical resources and resource allocation for the program.
  • Implement new technologies to enhance therapeutic discovery.

Requirements

  • PhD in Life Sciences from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in interdisciplinary collaborations in cell therapy.
  • Strong background in cancer biology and genetics.
  • Proven record of innovation in research and development.
  • Experience in supervisory and leadership roles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Industry experience in biomedical and cell therapy research.
