About the position

The Principal Scrum Master at Medtronic plays a crucial role in leading Scrum teams within the Cardiac Ablation Solutions Unit. The Principal Scrum Master is responsible for coaching teams, managing product backlogs, and fostering a culture of self-management and continuous improvement. This role is essential in driving innovation and enhancing healthcare solutions through effective team dynamics and Agile practices.

Responsibilities

  • Serve one or more Scrum Teams
  • Coach members of the Scrum Team in adherence to role accountabilities
  • Promote collaboration and teamwork across Scrum team members
  • Guide teams to connect behaviors to the Agile Manifesto and Scrum Framework
  • Facilitate Scrum Events as needed
  • Demonstrate versatility in coaching and communicating with Scrum Team members
  • Ensure the Scrum Team sets commitments (Product Goal, Sprint Goal, Definition of Done)
  • Strive toward Self-Management within the Scrum Team
  • Ensure effectiveness of all Scrum Events and Artifacts
  • Coach the Product Owner and Product Development Managers for good product backlog management
  • Protect developers from distractions that hinder achieving the sprint goal
  • Radiate the right information to those who need it
  • Use appropriate techniques for facilitation, teaching, modeling, mentoring, and coaching
  • Identify and facilitate the removal of impediments to the team's success
  • Facilitate the creation of Working Agreements
  • Incorporate new Scrum Guide changes
  • Help the team to self-organize/self-manage
  • Train/educate others on Agile frameworks
  • Analyze modifications to frameworks or process decisions with the Agile Manifesto
  • Facilitate larger organizational events
  • Facilitate root cause analysis sessions as needed
  • Apply conflict resolution techniques
  • Evaluate and coach improvement in team performance

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
  • Prior experience with Lean, Lean Startup, Scrum, SAFe, Kanban, XP
  • Prior experience in leading an organizational Lean/Agile transformation
  • Prior experience in software engineering delivery
  • Prior experience in Lean/Agile coaching and teaching
  • Prior experience giving and receiving value-added feedback
  • Prior experience or interest in working in distributed, global teams
  • Prior experience applying conflict resolution techniques

Nice-to-haves

  • First-level Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM I)
  • Second-level Scrum Master certification (A-CSM, PSM II)
  • Scaling experience and/or knowledge of multiple scaling frameworks
  • Regulated industry experience
  • Experience with product software/firmware integrated with electromechanical systems
  • Familiarity with tools like Azure Dev Ops, JIRA, Confluence, MS Teams
  • Experience building strong relationships with Scrum Teams, Product Owners, external stakeholders, and leadership
  • Experience with strategic communication outside of teams to stakeholders and leaders
  • Knowledge of multiple facilitation and coaching techniques
  • Prior Coaching and Facilitation experience
