About the position

The Principal Site Civil Engineer at HDR, Inc. is a leadership role within the Site Civil practice, responsible for driving project delivery and influencing team culture and client relationships. This position requires managing complex site development projects, mentoring staff, and representing HDR in the professional community. The role emphasizes collaboration across disciplines and supports business development efforts.

Responsibilities

• Function as a technical lead on large, complex site development projects.
• Manage workflow and tasks for site civil project staff on development of construction drawings, specifications, and supporting engineering calculations.
• Review shop drawings during construction.
• Understand all facets of the building design process and project delivery.
• Provide leadership for the site civil discipline and facilitate communication across all project disciplines.
• Mentor and develop the next generation of leadership at HDR.
• Represent HDR through participation in the professional and local community, including speaking engagements and authoring publications.
• Develop and foster relationships with internal and external clients.
• Support business development and help identify and pursue opportunities.
• Participate in proposals and interviews to win work.

Requirements

• BS Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline
• 20 years of experience in site development and civil design
• PE license
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Familiarity with Civil 3D
• Expert knowledge of Civil Engineering modeling software such as Hydraflow Storm Sewers, Hydraflow Hydrographs, HydroCAD, Bentley StormCAD.

Nice-to-haves

• MS Degree in Civil Engineering
• Strong operating knowledge of Civil 3D
