Principal Software Engineer- Apps Foundation

About the position

The Principal Engineer role at Snowflake involves leading the backend team responsible for developing and maintaining innovative services and infrastructure for Snowsight, Snowflake's advanced user interface. This position focuses on creating reliable, scalable, and maintainable backend systems that enhance user experiences while supporting the company's rapid growth in the SaaS sector.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain common services and features such as authentication, session management, notifications, and caching.
• Develop and maintain modules and recipes for full stack teams to leverage in building their own services.
• Provide backend environments for internal developers to iterate quickly and safely.
• Automate and manage the global fleet of services deployed across multiple cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP).

Requirements

• 10+ years of industry experience in large-scale cloud SaaS environments supporting mission-critical systems.
• Experience leading teams and solving deep technical challenges as an individual contributor.
• Deep understanding of relational databases and/or key-value stores, with experience in Postgres and Redis being desirable.
• At least 3+ years of experience in Kubernetes, with knowledge of Amazon EKS, Azure AKS, or Google GKE.
• Good knowledge of distributed systems, APIs, and cloud computing patterns.
• Firm grasp of IP networking, load balancing, and DNS.
• Self-driven and motivated with a strong work ethic and passion for problem-solving.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.
