About the position

The position is for a Principal or Senior Principal Software Engineer within the Data Services organization at Oracle. The role focuses on enabling data users and architects to build large-scale data applications, particularly in the healthcare sector and AI machine learning. The engineer will work on the OCI Data Flow, a managed Apache Spark service, and will be responsible for scaling distributed systems, optimizing performance, and developing enterprise-grade security solutions.

Responsibilities

• Define specifications for significant new projects and develop software according to those specifications.
• Take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures within the software engineering division.
• Perform professional software development tasks associated with developing, designing, and debugging software applications or operating systems.

Requirements

• BS (or higher) in Computer Science or related engineering fields.
• 8+ years of career experience in Java or Scala; knowledge in Python is a plus.
• Solid foundation in data structures and algorithms.
• Hands-on experience in operating cloud-based data systems at scale.
• Experience in distributed systems, databases, and big data systems (Apache Spark, Delta Lake, Hadoop, and/or SQL).
• Experience leading complex software projects from initial design to execution.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with machine learning frameworks.
