About the position

The Principal Software Engineer / Architect role at Oracle involves working within the Data Services organization to develop and optimize large-scale data applications. The position focuses on building a next-generation SQL query engine, enhancing performance with data storage systems, and ensuring enterprise-grade security. The role requires a strong background in software engineering, particularly in distributed systems and cloud-based data systems, to support various data processing tasks across Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

Responsibilities

  • Define specifications for significant new projects and develop software according to those specifications.
  • Take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures within the software engineering division.
  • Perform professional software development tasks associated with developing, designing, and debugging software applications or operating systems.
  • Lead complex software projects from initial design to execution.

Requirements

  • BS (or higher) in Computer Science or related engineering fields.
  • 8+ years of experience in Java or Scala; knowledge in Python is a plus.
  • Solid foundation in data structures and algorithms.
  • Hands-on experience in operating cloud-based data systems at scale.
  • Experience in distributed systems, databases, and big data systems (Apache Spark, Delta Lake, Hadoop, and/or SQL).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with machine learning and model training.
  • Familiarity with healthcare data processing and network anomaly detection.
