About the position

The position involves leveraging machine learning tools to enhance Yahoo News, focusing on building high-performing systems and improving user experience. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to develop state-of-the-art tooling for editorial purposes, while also managing infrastructure in cloud environments like AWS and GCP.

Responsibilities

• Leverage third-party, open-source, and in-house machine learning tools to build high-performing machine learning systems.
• Provide expertise and input on managing and creating infrastructure in AWS and GCP.
• Troubleshoot performance issues at the data, network, and application levels to improve system performance.
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional partners to leverage machine learning to improve Yahoo News for readers and build tooling for the editorial team.

Requirements

• Experience architecting and managing distributed systems and components in GCP and AWS.
• Experience with databases, including Spanner, BigTable, and BigQuery.
• Experience with distributed systems technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform).
• Understanding of version control systems, build automation tools, and observability.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines with effective deployment/rollout strategies.
• Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in optimization for low latency using FastAPI, Gunicorn, and Asyncio.
