About the position

The position is a principal software engineer role within an agile team at Highmark Health, responsible for building scalable software applications across digital channels. The engineer will take an enterprise-wide architectural view of solutions, collaborating with clients and overseeing the software application build process from ideation to development. The role includes mentoring other engineers and ensuring the technical execution of products aligns with client needs and product roadmaps.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the resolution of technical and business problems ensuring scalability, performance, maintainability, security, and robustness.
  • Generate ideas and implement technical solutions to achieve product features while monitoring technical processes against project plans.
  • Explore new technologies and architectural concepts to ensure the use of cutting-edge solutions in products.
  • Participate in high-level development estimations to ensure roadmap execution is on target.
  • Present solutions and ideas to team members and management to drive technical solutions and implementations.
  • Mentor and provide leadership to other software engineers as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or closely related field.
  • 9 years of proficiency in design and analysis of algorithms, data structures, and design patterns in building and deploying scalable systems.
  • 9 years with at least two modern programming languages (Java, Python, JavaScript, ACE, IIB/ITX, Informatica preferred).
  • 9 years of experience with web services technologies such as REST, HTTPS, JSON.
  • 9 years with two or more general purpose programming languages including Java, Python (Django/Flask), C/C++, C#, Objective C, JavaScript, or Go.
  • 9 years of defining system architectures and exploring technical feasibility trade-offs for optimizing execution while planning for long-term capabilities.
  • 9 years producing fault-tolerant, efficient, and maintainable code.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field.
  • 9 years working with technology systems in healthcare.
  • Experience in Cloud platforms like GCP or AWS.
  • 3 years of working with Machine Learning, especially in Natural Language Understanding, Machine Translation, Deep Neural Networks.
