About the position

As a Principal Software Engineering Manager in Azure Storage, you will lead the SFTP offering and other related projects within the Azure front end services. This role is pivotal in enhancing the Azure Storage platform, which supports major Microsoft online businesses and handles vast amounts of customer data. You will be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and delivery of high-quality product code that meets the demanding storage and latency requirements of global customers. Your leadership will influence multiple teams across different geographical locations, contributing to the mission of building a secure and reliable cloud storage platform.

Responsibilities

• Lead the SFTP offering and other Azure front end services projects.
• Design, implement, and ship product code that meets high storage and latency requirements.
• Drive improvements in service reliability and performance.
• Manage a team of engineers, setting clear expectations and delivering results.
• Research and resolve technical issues, providing clarity to the team.
• Contribute to the overall technical direction of Azure Storage alongside other managers.
• Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) for monitoring system performance and initiating recovery actions when necessary.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline.
• 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• 4+ years of experience managing a team of engineers.
• 5+ years of industry software engineering experience, including delivering cloud-based services.
• 3 years of experience in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems.
• Prior hands-on development experience in large scale systems, particularly in storage or cloud computing.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
• 10+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in relevant languages.
• Experience in service reliability, network security, encryption, authentication, SFTP, SSH, or REST.
• Demonstrated empathy for customers using the product.
