About the position

The Principal Software Engineering Manager for the Windows Cloud Platform Team at Microsoft will lead initiatives to enhance the Windows Cloud platform, including Windows 365 Cloud PC and Azure Virtual Desktop. This role involves driving software improvements, mentoring engineers, and collaborating with various teams to deliver high-quality cloud services. The position requires a blend of technical expertise and leadership skills to manage complex projects and foster a culture of innovation and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and drive software improvements to enhance site reliability and fundamentals for Windows Cloud services.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to provide a holistic view of Windows Cloud services.
  • Drive quality releases to exceed customer expectations on service metrics.
  • Lead the design and implementation of telemetry, alerting, self-healing, and automation capabilities for cloud services.
  • Mentor and grow a diverse team of software engineers and site reliability engineers.
  • Collaborate with internal partner teams such as Azure Compute and Microsoft Security to deliver shared solutions.
  • Architect secure, distributed, scalable, and resilient micro-services using modern technologies.
  • Maintain a data-driven culture and nurture a high-performance team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline.
  • 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • 5+ years of experience as a software engineer/leader designing and shipping cloud services or software products.
  • 2+ years of people management experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with distributed systems delivering large-scale, secure, and resilient cloud services.
  • Experience in Service Management, Operations, and Support.
  • Experience managing stakeholder and partner relationships to drive collaboration and innovation.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to generate clarity in ambiguous situations.
