About the position

The Principal Software Engineering Manager for Xbox will lead the Backend Services team, which is crucial for enabling game creators to publish their games across various platforms including Console, PC, and Cloud. This role involves managing a team of software engineers, driving innovation, and ensuring the delivery of scalable and reliable services that enhance the gaming experience for creators and players alike.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a creative group of 6-8 software engineers.
  • Develop, grow, and direct engineers to reach their higher potential, spending about 60% of time on this.
  • Code, drive architecture, innovation, design, and development of highly scalable intelligent services.
  • Plan, design, build, test, debug, and ship business-critical software services.
  • Collaborate with technology partners and drive positive relationships.
  • Solve complex problems to enable innovative features across multiple devices and services.
  • Act as a role model and participant in a community of creativity, inclusion, and respect.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline.
  • 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise with RESTful APIs, services, and cloud storage technologies.
  • Understanding of data structures, algorithms, threading, and synchronization.
  • 3+ years managing a full-time software engineering team.

Nice-to-haves

  • 10 years experience delivering quality software within a professional organization.
  • 7 years programming in one or more of C#, C, C++, Java.
  • 2+ years programming with .NET Framework or .NET Core.
  • Expertise in Kubernetes, Linux, Azure, GCP, or AWS.
  • Ability to quickly resolve ambiguity and respond to rapid change.
