About the position

The Principal Solution Architect at National Grid plays a critical role in the IT Engineering department, focusing on the Maximo application and its supporting technologies. This position is responsible for designing and developing quality solution options that meet specific business needs while ensuring compliance with operational and architectural standards. The role involves mentoring technical experts, guiding stakeholders, and evaluating technologies to align with National Grid's future needs.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the capabilities of the Maximo application and supporting technologies.
  • Design and support the development of quality solution options in response to business and platform needs.
  • Evaluate technologies against vendor product roadmaps and market trends.
  • Ensure solutions are fit for purpose and compliant with National Grid standards.
  • Contribute to the domain roadmap and overall enterprise architecture plan.
  • Mentor and collaborate with technical subject matter experts.
  • Provide design-related services at various development phases.
  • Guide business stakeholders to maximize technology investments.
  • Communicate technical designs and rationale to the architecture community.
  • Assist in developing service level agreements and service guarantees.
  • Provide direction around incident resolution and application development standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Software development and/or support experience at an enterprise level.
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle management techniques.
  • Strong hands-on technical knowledge in application development and Enterprise Asset Management implementations.
  • Knowledge of Agile, SAFe, and Waterfall methodologies.
  • Experience with client/server and web-based systems architectures.
  • Experience building environments from an infrastructure delivery perspective.
  • Strong technical and functional experience with IBM Maximo v 7.6 or later.
  • Mastery knowledge of database technologies such as DB2, Oracle, and SQL Server.
  • Mastery knowledge of middleware technologies such as Mulesoft and WebMethods.
  • Domain knowledge for server technologies such as Windows & Unix servers.
  • Mastery knowledge of development languages and platforms such as Microsoft .Net, Java, and Microsoft Office suite.
