About the position

The position at Mott MacDonald involves providing technical expertise in civil engineering design, focusing on various project types such as site civil development, solar, roadways, pipelines, and stormwater design. The role requires leading a team of designers, coordinating engineering execution, and ensuring compliance with current codes and standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in civil engineering and will be responsible for mentoring junior staff, managing workloads, and communicating effectively with internal and external teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise in Civil Engineering design including utility, grading/earthwork, drainage, access road design, erosion and sedimentation control, and infrastructure design.
  • Prepare material quantities from Civil 3D model files and ensure designs meet current codes and standards.
  • Lead permitting and coordination efforts with regulatory agencies from a technical perspective.
  • Direct technical staff on appropriate tasks while completing higher complexity tasks.
  • Perform and execute technical drawings without supervision and review drawings by others to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Mentor and train junior design staff on drawings and design software.
  • Create and lead discipline-specific and company drafting standards.
  • Utilize Civil 3D to produce engineered construction plans and solve complex designs without oversight.
  • Coordinate with project engineers and other discipline engineers to ensure consistency in project management activities.
  • Manage and assign workload to design staff and communicate effectively with internal and external teams.

Requirements

  • Hold an associates or higher degree or equivalent technical qualifications in CAD.
  • Minimum of 12+ years' detailed general civil engineering design experience.
  • Experience in site civil development, solar, roadways, pipelines, and stormwater design.
  • Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD (Civil 3D).
  • Strong technical, communication, and design skills.
  • Ability to complete reviews of junior design staff and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in mentoring and training junior staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with complex issues and maintain effective working relationships.
