Principal SQL Database Administrator & Developer (Onsite)

About the position

This position is responsible for providing architectural guidance on technologies that align with Starkey's IT and business goals. This responsibility will include (but not limited to) solution evaluation and recommendation, early-phase project estimates which contribute to the business case and high-level design. These technologies will align with industry best practices in all facets of database design, Data Warehousing, server configurations, and performance tuning for Starkey's Microsoft SQL Server Database and Data Warehouse environment. This position will provide 24x7 support for the Starkey global facilities as well as HQ.

Responsibilities

• Provide architectural/design guidance on all SQL Server database applications.
• Seeks information and influences choices to align systems to achieve Starkey's IT strategic goals.
• Documents issue, goal and recommendation including all relevant information. (i.e.: costs, risks/benefits, resources)
• Dimensional Modeling concepts and implementation best practices.
• Leverage current and evolving technologies to design, code, test, log, debug, document, and analyze current and future applications; all with the goals of Maintainability, Security, Availability, and Scalability.
• Provide architectural/integration guidance with external systems (i.e.: vendors, cloud applications, external Web Services, etc.).
• Identifies and anticipates business/process flow requirements.
• Propose/recommend well-defined solutions that will meet both business and IT strategic goals.
• Supports and drives success towards chosen direction.
• Partner with key business partners to understand their business goals and align technologies to meet those goals.
• Identifies and anticipates customer requirements, expectations and needs.
• Seeks and integrates customer feedback from a variety of sources to identify impactful improvement opportunities.
• Ensures follow-up with customers to certify that the implementation of solutions maintain customer satisfaction and loyalty.
• Assess current environment and create consolidation solutions that will reduce complexity and improve redundancy in Starkey's SQL Server database and application environments.
• Identifies service gaps, redundancy and complexity in Starkey's SQL Server database and related applications environment.
• Initiates decisive, timely action to address gaps, redundancy and complexity and implement improvements.
• Drives initiatives/efforts to successful completion and closure.
• Actively participate in technology/vendor user groups to stay current with available technologies that may be of benefit to Starkey's business and IT initiatives.
• Attend and participate in technical user groups.
• Seek out and research technologies that may contribute to business/technology goals and improvements.
• Mentor/coach peers on new technologies.
• Research and resolve issues in an expedient manner on a 24x7 schedule.
• Defines issues clearly despite incomplete or ambiguous information.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience required.
• 8+ years field experience as an MS SQL Database Administrator, Data Warehouse developer, and System Administrator.
• Experience with the installation and support of SQL application systems - includes hardware, operating systems, database and application software.
• Knowledge of MS SQL database and performance monitoring/management tools is required.
• Knowledge of hardware and storage its related peripherals.
