About the position

The Principal/Sr. Principal Engineer Hardware Avionics role at Northrop Grumman involves supporting the Air Vehicle Hardware Avionics team, focusing on vehicle flight control and safety. The position encompasses responsibilities such as flight computer subsystem lab testing, flight test support, anomaly resolution, and supplier management. The engineer will engage in proposal development, technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, and analyses across all levels of the total system product lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Support flight computer subsystem lab testing and flight test activities.
• Resolve anomalies and manage supplier relationships.
• Engage in proposal development and technical planning.
• Conduct system integration, verification, and validation.
• Perform cost and risk analysis, and supportability and effectiveness analyses.
• Translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications through functional analysis and detailed trade studies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with at least 5 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 3 years of experience, or a PhD with no experience for Principal Engineer.
• Bachelor's degree in STEM with at least 8 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 6 years of experience, or a PhD with 3 years of experience for Sr. Principal Engineer.
• Ability to obtain a DOD Secret clearance.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Matlab.
• Experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes and signal analyzers.

Nice-to-haves

• Active DoD Secret security clearance or higher.
• Good understanding of general avionics components.
• Some experience in flight testing, supplier management, requirements development, and verification testing.
• Prior experience as a military, civil, or commercial avionics technician.
