About the position

The Principal/Sr. Principal Engineer Hardware Avionics position at Northrop Grumman involves supporting the Air Vehicle Hardware Avionics team, focusing on vehicle flight control and safety systems. The role encompasses responsibilities such as lab testing, flight test support, anomaly resolution, and supplier management, contributing to the development and integration of advanced avionics systems. Candidates will engage in proposal development, technical planning, and system verification, ensuring that customer requirements are effectively translated into hardware and software specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Support flightputer subsystem lab testing and flight test activities.
  • Resolve anomalies and manage supplier relationships.
  • Conduct proposal development and technical planning for avionics systems.
  • Perform system integration, verification, and validation of hardware and software.
  • Conduct cost and risk analysis, and supportability and effectiveness analyses.
  • Translate customer requirements into total systems solutions, considering technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, and detailed trade studies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with at least 5 years of experience, or a Master's degree in STEM with 3 years of experience, or a PhD with no experience for Principal Engineer.
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM with at least 8 years of experience, or a Master's degree in STEM with 6 years of experience, or a PhD with 3 years of experience for Sr. Principal Engineer.
  • Ability to obtain a DOD Secret clearance (US citizenship required).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project, Visio) and Matlab.
  • Experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, signal analyzers, and multi-meters.

Nice-to-haves

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance or higher.
  • Good understanding of general avionics components.
  • Some experience in flight testing.
  • Some experience in supplier management.
  • Some experience in requirements development and verification testing.
  • Prior experience as a military, civil, or commercial avionics technician.
