Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history. Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer for Integration and Test (I&T). This position will be located at our Space Systems Sector in Gilbert, AZ. The qualified candidate will be part of Northrop Grumman's Tactical Space Systems. In this position, you will perform duties contributing to Integration and Test (I&T) activities for space vehicle systems and their supporting hardware. I&T Mechanical Engineers coordinate and oversee mechanical build and production operations performed by the technical staff. You could support and/or be responsible for developing test procedures, processes, support hardware designs, etc. that add to the requirements for the space vehicle being tested. Tasks may include testing space flight hardware with the expectation that the systems under test are well understood, and the test constraints and hazards identified to ensure the safety of the space flight hardware at all times. Test results will be analyzed, and determinations made by the operator to ensure that the space flight hardware is both healthy and operating as expected. You must be knowledgeable in aerospace systems, spacecraft subsystems design, or mission operations. You will be working in a team environment where the team will be responsible for all I&T activities for the space vehicle being tested. This is a Dual Band Requisition; candidates will be considered for both the Principal and Sr. Principal Levels based upon the Basic Requirements above. This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80, allowing employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties contributing to Integration and Test (I&T) activities for space vehicle systems and their supporting hardware.
  • Coordinate and oversee mechanical build and production operations performed by the technical staff.
  • Develop test procedures, processes, and support hardware designs that add to the requirements for the space vehicle being tested.
  • Test space flight hardware, ensuring systems under test are well understood and test constraints and hazards are identified.
  • Analyze test results and make determinations to ensure space flight hardware is healthy and operating as expected.
  • Work in a team environment responsible for all I&T activities for the space vehicle being tested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related area and 5 years of related experience OR Master's Degree and 3 years of experience for Principal Engineer.
  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM or related area and 9 years of related experience OR Master's Degree and 7 years of experience for Sr. Principal Engineer.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: integration, test, mechanical operations, or manufacturing.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S Government DoD clearance (Top Secret level).

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Active TS/SCI Clearance.
  • Demonstrated ability/desire to lead a team of less experienced engineers.
  • Experience with design modeling and drawing efforts using 3-D modeling tools.
  • Deltek MES experience for generating work instructions.
  • Experience with PTC PLM Software Suite: Windchill, Creo, Creo View, etc.
  • Experience handling space flight components and knowledge of manufacturing processes applicable to spaceflight hardware.
  • Familiarity with TipQA for processing non-conformances.
  • Experience with hazardous operations: Crane operation, aerial platforms, battery handling, etc.
